A Year Before You Plan to Graduate |

| Meet with an advisor. Each student should plan ahead to take the classes necessary to graduate. | |
| Apply for graduation. Undergraduate
students should initiate the graduation application process two
semesters before the proposed date of graduation* at the Enrollment
Services window in Frazier Hall. Three weeks should be allowed
for Enrollment Services to process the application; the student
should then return to pick up the application at the Graduation
Office (Frazier Hall, Room114c) and take it to his or her college
advisor. When the college completes its evaluation of the application,
the student should pick up the signed application and take it to
the UNLV cashier for payment of the $50 application fee. For more
information about applying for graduation, please refer to the
Undergraduate
Catalog. *Graduate students: Please refer to the "Frequently Asked Questions? Graduate Students" website for more information. Graduation application procedures for graduate/professional students differ slightly from than those for undergraduates. |

Six Weeks Before Graduation |

| Notify UNLV that you will participate in the graduation ceremony. Students sign up to participate at the UNLV Bookstore at the time they purchase the cap, gown, and tassel, typically about six weeks before each ceremony. During the sign-up process, students will be asked to complete a form, and they will receive a name card that is necessary for them to participate in the ceremony. The forms should be completed and left at the bookstore; the name card should be retained by the student. Any student who fails to complete a form at the bookstore should contact the Graduation Office at 702-895-3685 or 895-1799 to ensure a seat is reserved. Students may sign up to participate in commencement and purchase their regalia as late as the Friday before commencement, but it is recommended that they complete this process in the weeks preceding the ceremony. | Hold on to your name card. A name card will be given to each student by the bookstore at the time he/she signs up to participate in commencement. Students must bring the card to commencement to hand to the name reader on the stage. | Order your commencement-related materials. Order your cap and gown. Students should arrange
to purchase a cap and gown from the UNLV Bookstore approximate six
weeks before commencement. (Students will be notified by mail when
the regalia is available for purchase.) The prices, including tax,

| Obtain the appropriate tassel. Each student, except Doctoral and Juris Doctorate candidates, must wear the scarlet and gray tassel sold at the UNLV Bookstore. Even if a student borrows a cap and gown, or purchases them elsewhere, the scarlet and gray tassels must be purchased at the UNLV Bookstore. | Notify guests. Families, friends, and the general public are cordially invited to attend the commencement activities. Guests enter through the upper concourse of the Thomas & Mack Center. Tickets are not required. A special area will be set aside on the floor of the Thomas & Mack Center for guests with disabilities. Thomas & Mack ushers are available to give directions to the special area. Guests with disabilities are allowed only one person to accompany them to the area. At Commencement |

| Arrive early. Both students and guests should arrive at least one hour before the ceremony begins. Graduating students should to report to the staging area at theCox Pavilion and look for the banner representing their respective colleges. Marshals from each college will then assist them in lining up. Doctoral students and master's students should look for the Graduate College banners. The procession will begin promptly at the appointed time. | |
| Park at the Thomas & Mack Center. Ample parking for both graduates and guests is available outside the Thomas & Mack Center. Handicapped parking spaces are located in all sections of the Thomas & Mack Center parking lot. | |
| Wear appropriate academic attire. Each student must wear a cap and gown to participate in the ceremony. Masters and Educational Specialists will wear their hoods. Doctoral and Juris Doctorate candidates will carry their hoods over their left arm. Students usually purchase the cap, gown, and tassel at the UNLV Bookstore. The cap, gown and tassel are typically available about six weeks before each ceremony. Students will be notified by mail when the regalia is available for purchase. | |
| Don't bring personal items. For everyone's safety, all bags will be checked at the door. Please do not bring purses or other personal items. Students are asked not to carry anything in the ceremony. There is no place to check or store purses, coats, or other personal items. Also, childcare is not provided at commencement. Graduates will not be permitted to bring children on the arena floor. | |
| Assemble at the Cox Pavilion. All students will line up in the Cox Pavilion Arena located on the second floor of the Cox Pavilion. Students may access the Cox Pavilion Arena by entering through the main entrances to the Cox Pavilion located on the east (university side) and west (parking lot side) or through the Thomas & Mack Center. Disabled students participating in graduation should meet at the Cox Pavilion tunnel (first floor) an hour prior to the commencement ceremony; they will join their colleges in the Cox Pavilion tunnel for the processional into the Thomas & Mack Center. (They should not go to the second floor of the Cox Pavilion.) Any student with a disability who needs special arrangements to attend commencement should contact Marc Cardinalli, Administrative Code Officer, 702-895-1879, at least one week before the ceremony. | |
| Follow the order of the processional. Doctoral candidates will lead the procession, followed by Juris Doctorate, master's, and specialist degree candidates. They will be followed in college order by bachelor's and professional development degree candidates. | |
| Move your tassel. At the beginning of commencement, tassels are worn on the right. Upon direction from the podium, the tassel is moved to the left. | |
| Take the commencement program from your chair when you leave. Commencement programs will be placed on the graduates' chairs on the floor of the Thomas & Mack Center. Please note: The names of students who requested a non-release of student directory information will not be included in the commencement program. Students who filed non-release of information requests must contact the Graduation Office (702-895-3685 or 702-895-1799) six weeks before commencement to have their names included in the program. | |
| Check for reception information. Each of the colleges sponsors its own reception; please contact the appropriate college to check on reception times and locations. | |
After Commencement |

| Expect your diploma in the mail. Candidates for graduation will receive their diplomas in the mail after it is determined that their graduation requirements have been met. If requirements have been met, this usually occurs within eight to 10 weeks of commencement. If you have not received your diploma, please contact the Graduation Office at 702-895-3685 or 895-1799. | |
| Order your graduation photos. Arrangements have been made with Chappell Studios for a professional photographer to record the moment students cross the stage. Students will receive a proof in the mail approximately one week after the ceremony. There is no obligation to purchase. If you would like a family/group photograph of up to six people taken, photographers will be available immediately after the ceremony near the Cox Pavilion entrance for one hour. Please note: The names of students who requested a non-release of student directory information will not be released to Chappell Studios. This means photographs of these individual students will not be available. Students wishing to have their names released to Chappell Studio must contact Chappell Studios directly at (800) 424-3686. | |
| Order your videos of commencement. Videos of commencement may be ordered from the UNLV Bookstore. | |
